Counselor Education and Supervision
Supervision

“Supervision is the crucible in which counselors are formed- a place where knowledge meets humanity.”
Bernard & Goodyear (adapted from their model of supervision)

“The greatest good you can do for another is not just to share your riches but to reveal to them their own.”
Benjamin Disraeli

“Effective supervision guides the counselor to see not only the client more clearly but also themselves with honesty, compassion, and grace.”
Gregory C. Wright, LCPC, NCC
Supervision has been one of the most fulfilling phases in my doctoral journey. It can be a vulnerable and humbling experience but yet can be transformative for all parties involved. I view supervision as a collaborative process that fosters both professional competence and personal growth. Guided by empathy, ethics, and cultural humility, I strive to create a supportive environment where supervisees can explore their strengths and challenges with openness.

This program helped me to develop my personal approach. My approach integrates the Cognitive Behavioral Supervision (CBS) model, emphasizing structure, reflection, and skill development. Through goal-setting, feedback, and case conceptualization, supervisees learn to connect their thoughts, emotions, and interventions to client outcomes. Supervision becomes a partnership of accountability and compassion, cultivating self-awareness, ethical practice, and confidence in clinical judgment.
